WORK LIFE BALANCE
It doesn’t help to have a successful company when you’re too burnt out to appreciate life. I’m not saying this has to be in perfect balance at all times. Sometimes the best thing you can do is work now to support later. However, it’s important that your balance is serving you.
In today’s economy it’s important not only to get your message out to people directly, but you also need to be providing the content that allows them to find you.
This is the art of efficiency doing what you believe will be effective. The more you can get done in a shorter time, the more time you’ll have for other stuff. And I have no doubt that there are other things that you would rather be doing with your time.
I’m not going to be your CPA or help you write the terms for the next round of financing. However if you want to brainstorm on how you’re going to raise that round or what options you have, then that’s a great topic for us to discuss because if you can't pay the bills, you won't be in business for long.

Why I Coach
This is a question that I get all the time. I came from a really cushy and successful tech sales career where I was getting overpaid for minimal work. Like many of you and most of my friends and colleagues, I was struggling and looking for what I was passionate about in my life for years. Then something horrible happened in my life. I lost 4 close friends over the span of 2 years. That was the worst and best thing that could have happened in my life. It gave me the motivation to find and do what I was passionate about.
For me, I realized that what I’ve always been passionate about was learning, but not just any learning. It’s all about the learning that’s hard to get to. It’s about the learning you don’t think you could do. That’s why when I found coaching it was such a good fit. It’s a way I can challenge others AND challenge myself at the same time. That’s why it’s always such a pleasure working with entrepreneurs and founders because they know that push will help them get to that next level. That’s also why I work at Stanford Business school and why I’ve started a software company that’s trying to bring challenge and growth to a whole new world of people.
I wouldn’t wish the horrible events that I went through on anyone. Instead I want to be the force and the challenge that can help you lean into what is hardest for you, and I know there is something on the other side that is worth pushing for.
Why work with Travis
First and foremost I’ve launched several successful business from solopreneur outfits like this coaching business to a growing tech company. I know the challenge that you’re facing as an entrepreneur and founder and I can help you through the struggles that you face. I’ve been in technology for more than 15 years and I’ve been in the startup scene in San Francisco Bay Area for 5 of those years. There isn’t much that I haven’t been through personally and for what I haven’t, I know someone that has. I also work with the best and brightest minds in the bay area at Stanford Graduate School of Business on a weekly basis. What I find most interesting about that work is that true leadership is never what you think it is. True leadership is about willing to risk yourself so that others might take a risk too. I’m willing to take that risk and jump into this, and I hope you can join me in this risk too
I graduated Salutatorian in a class of over 1000 engineers from University of Florida. I knew I wanted to start a company for a decade. I didn’t do it. It was too easy to make good money and have a good life. It took a wake-up call in 2012 for me to realize that it was a combination of fear and a lack of a plan that was stopping me from attempting to do something more.
I was lucky enough that a VP and mentor saw something in me I didn’t see in myself. He hand picked me to go to an intensive coaching training program and bring coaching back into the company. He recognized something in me that I didn’t recognize in myself. I realized then and there that helping people make big changes was a far better way to have the impact I wanted in the world.
I still love technology too much to give up on it completely, so I also have a software company that is trying to bring the ideas of coaching to the masses. It’s cliche, but I’ve drank that San Francisco kool aid.
To keep me grounded and to keep my skills sharp, I also facilitate Interpersonal Communications for Stanford MBA’s. The students are phenomenal bunch of motivated, mostly current or future entrepreneurs who test and challenge me every day to be better than I was yesterday.
